Molly's Gift · Small Grants Scheme
Our Small Grants Scheme
We deliver a small grants programme, where each year individuals, community groups, charities and primary schools can apply for up to £500 to support disadvantaged children and young people. The fundraising we do in the community, and the fundraising others do for us, goes to support this part of our charity.
In the past, we've funded local hospice Rainbows with a £500 grant — alongside the individual stories below.
Mobility
A sports wheelchair
Funded for a young girl so she could take part in PE at school.
Swimming
Swimming lessons
For a young boy with Muscular Dystrophy, to help strengthen his muscles.
Team sport
Hockey equipment
For a teenage boy to take part at his local club, due to a lack of family support at home.
Therapy
Occupational therapy
Supporting a young girl living with a rare health condition.
Therapy
Horse riding lessons
For Lenny, who has Autism and Muscular Dystrophy — helping with physiotherapy and strengthening muscles.
Molly's Gift · How Grants Help
How Are Grants Helped
Meet Isabelle, a young girl we helped support through our small grants scheme.
When Isabelle was just 2 hours old, she was rushed to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where it was discovered she had TAPVD — a condition where her pulmonary veins were abnormally connected to her heart. Just as Isabelle was finally prepared to go home, it was discovered she had Hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain), so she was rushed once more into emergency surgery. After complications, Isabelle had to undergo a Nissen's procedure (major surgery for acid reflux) and learned to live with an NJ tube (feeding tube).
In March 2024, Isabelle's family discovered their beautiful little girl had been diagnosed with Phelan McDermid Syndrome (a chromosome deletion), which causes various neurological and neurodevelopmental problems, alongside other major health complications.
“With lots of OT work (which Molly's Gift helped us with) she's started to find them (her hands) again and is whacking things happily to get them to sing. Isabelle is still not able to sit unaided or talk but she's a very happy little person who loves her brother, music and her dog walks. Thank you so much for all your help, it's made a massive difference.
— Isabelle's mum
Through our small grants scheme, we were able to support Isabelle with occupational therapy — helping her regain the use of her hands and motor skills.
